How a Giveaway Week works

1
Shops team up
A local business or association starts an event and invites the shops nearby. Each one offers a single free gift — a coffee, a bloom, a sample, anything small.
2
Shoppers walk the trail
Customers tap or scan the sign at any participating counter, pick the gifts they want, and visit each shop in person to collect them.
3
Every shop grows its list
Each claim adds a real, local customer to that shop's mailing list — plus a guaranteed in-person visit. No ads. No coupons. Just neighbours trading customers.

In group giveaways like these, participating shops each typically add dozens to hundreds of local subscribers — people who physically walked in.

No event in your area yet?

Be the one who starts it. You pick the dates, we give you the invite link and promotion kit, and the shops you invite join in about two minutes each. Organizers run the show — and their business is front and centre.

Common questions

What does it cost?

Nothing to run or join your first Giveaway Week — no card required. After the event, shops that want to keep exchanging customers year-round can join the ongoing Shop Local Network as a paid membership. Entirely optional.

What do I have to do as a participating shop?

Offer one free gift (something inexpensive — a coffee, a sticker pack, a mini service), print the sign we generate for your counter, and hand over the gift when people come in to collect. That's it.

How do I get the customer emails?

When a shopper claims your gift, their name and email are added to your private list — visible in your dashboard and downloadable anytime as a spreadsheet that imports into Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or any mail tool. Emails are only shared with the shop whose gift was claimed.

Do gifts get claimed by people who never show up?

Gifts are collected in person — that's the point. The gift list only appears on phones inside the store, claims are held for 7 days and then released, and your dashboard shows exactly who collected.

What does organizing involve?

Pick a start date a few weeks out, invite the shops around you with your event link (we give you ready-made messages), and aim for at least 5 participating stores. Most organizers line up their street in a week or two. Your business appears as the event organizer everywhere the event is promoted.

Do I need special hardware?

No — you print your counter sign yourself in seconds. Optional tap-enabled counter stands are available in our store if you want the sturdier, nicer-looking option.

Will this work for my kind of business?

Any bricks-and-mortar business with a counter and foot traffic: cafés, boutiques, salons, gyms, bakeries, gift shops, bookstores. If a customer can walk in and collect something small, it works.
